Essential Question Paragraph: English

Societies and People cause change to everyone, everywhere. Individuals affect change in a society all the time. Every now and then people try to change things in a society. These people do this because they feel that something needs to be fixed or at least changed. When these people do this they pull others in to help them. People can change anything they would like to with the right amount of hard work and help.
Another way people affect change in a society is when they try to convert other people's beliefs. Sometimes people believe that their beliefs should be the ones that everybody follows. But everyone has their own beliefs and NO ONE should ever think they have to follow someone elses viewpoint. They have their own view point. When people force their beliefs on someone it makes the other personm stresss out and follow them in stead of theirselves.
One other way people affect change in the society is when people take the initiative to help others and do good deeds. This makes a change because it encourages other people to help out and do the right thing. Even though the people are following the others their following them for a very good reason so it does'nt really matter.
One way the society affects change on the individual is when there are ads being put up or handed out. These ads may contain lies and poeple believe it is the truth so they fall for it!! The adsa persuade people to maybe believe or fall for something that they dont believe in. This is bad because it changes the persons belief system and they dont even know it.
Another way society affects the individual is when a majority of people believe something and there is a few other people who believe something else totally different. The few others dont want to be left out of the group so they follow the others. They do this because they don't want to be ignored and left out. This is a problem because their not going with what they believe in their going with someone elses beliefs.
One last reason why the society affects the indvidual is when people get afraid to do something. Meaning that people follow the others because their afraid to be different and their afraid that believing something opther than what they believe. This is really bad because this person could change a society with their beliefs but their too afraid to do anything. This is also bad because their not following their beliefs.
If your afraid to be differnt or afraid to change something DON"T BE!!!! You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to!!

Paragraph for Digital Literacy

Well i don't know where to start but i can say WOW!! The discussion board got real intense when people included their opinions. But to be honest I LOVED IT!! It was SO cool to see how certain people we know from school feel about certain things. It was real eye opening to all the political views in our school. I loved telling people my side and opening their eyes to things they haven't seen. We also got to see how Obama and McCain feel on things. I learned how McCain and Obama both have big plans for technology. Obama uses A LOT of technology everyday. But McCain on the other hand can't really use technology because of his disabilities from war. And you know what WHO CARES. Its perfectly okay to not use technology. You don't HAVE to use it. And I'm glad he doesn't because you don't need technology to run a country. And hopefully Obama won't constantly be on his Blackberry or Laptop while he is trying to run our country. Because well unfortunately he won presidency. I loved using blackboard to communicate with our colleagues it really let me get to know some of their views and it was really awesome. Even though some people got offended when people expressed their views. Its okay. If they had a problem with it then they shouldnt have read it or replied to it. That sounds mean but im sorry its true people have a right to freedom of speech. So yea......

A: They have to be under the same belief system.

Q: Does the candidate you are voting for have opinions oin issues that you dont agree with? Which ones? and why?
A: The candidate I have chosen does not have issues that I have seen that I do not agree with.

Q: How does the economy affect your vote in this election?
A: I hope that the candidate I choose will bring the economy up and make sure the funds go to much needed areas.

Q: How does the candidates position on changing the education in our schools affect your vote? why?
A: That is a main priority to me. I know that the children are the future of america and if they dont have the proper education then they cannot help.

Q: How does the candidates talk about change affect you? Meaning that do you think he/she will actually take the tiome to follow through with the change they claim?
A: I can not be 100% sure but I have to go on faith that the candidate I choose will follow through on his words.

Reflection::
The person interviewed responded okay. They didnt go into detail where I needed them to. But we can still get a good idea of their opinions. Their answers are saying that they are an active member of their society and they try to keep up with the candidate as much as they can in their spare time. Which is good because some people dont keep up with their candidate and end up voting for someone who changed their belief. The change by the individual is reflected when the people have different beliefs than them. And how their talk about "change" could either be truthful or lies. But all the society can do is vote for whos best and see if they follow through on their talk about "change."

The Enivronment: Global Warming.

Global warming is the increase in the ocean and near surface temperatures. Global warming is caused mostly by humans. We humans are adding excessive amounts of greenhouse gases into the air. Global warming is bad. There isnt a positive side to it. You can look at it every which way but you will probably ever find a positive side to global warming. Mccains view on global warming is that we shouldnt be wasting time trying to figure out a timline for it. But that we should be trying to take care of the rising temperatures and waters that it brings. Obamas view on global warming is that we should take agressive action NOW. He believes that global warming is one of the greatest challenges our generation has faced. y opinion on global warming is that we should try to fix it but its not a BIG problem that has to be fixed right now. There are more important things in the world to worry about than global warming. Should we be trying to reduce it? yes, but it will be a lifelong process to end global warming. We should be worrying about global warming in about 2 or 3 maybe even 4 years from now. We should still be reducing it until then but aty the moment there are more important isusues on hand. We should be worrying about war than anything else at this day and time. In better words global warming isnt as bad as most people make it sound. Their OVERexaggerating.

nuclear weapons

Nuclear weapons are explosive devices that is powered by "fission"(the splitting of a nucleas of an atom.) The create really really big EXPLOSIONS. They can cause MASS DESTRUCTION!!!!!! Nuclear weapons cause explosions which kill people, children, animals, and trees. The explosions they cause also blind every living thing within a 10 mile radius in every direction. John Mccains view on nuclear weapons is that we should never use them again. He believes that we should be able to deter and attack with regular weapons not nuclear weapons. They cause to much damage to the world. Obamas view is that we need to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He also says that if hes elected he will ban everyone from producing nuclear weapons. My opinion on Nuclear weapons is that we shouldnt evem have them. We made them knowing that we werent supposed too. Nuclear weapons kill people! Do you think thats what we want. In my opinion Nuclear Weapons are unneeded, and unwanted pieces of junk!! Im against nuclear weapons. Whats the point of killing living, breathing animals and people when you dont need to.

Off shore drilling

off shore drilling is when they try to get resources such as oil out of the shoreline. Off shore drilling effects has alot of risks for our enviroment. It could cause oil spills and many other dangerous things for our enviroment. There really isnt a positive side to off shore driling except we get more resources than we usually have.
Now that you know what off shore drilling is. I shall tell you what the presidential candidates have to say about it. Mccain supports off shore drilling as a "short term sort of thing." He sees it as a way to lower the rising gas prices. While Obama sees off shore drilling as something that makes no sense. Off shore drilling cannot help with the rising gas prices because it could take a very long time to find oil. From these facts and opinions i have found my own opinion. I am against off shore drilling. Because we are ruinin g our enviroment by drilling when it cant even help us till 10 maybe 20 even 30 years from now. In better words were wasting our time doing something that doesnt need to be done. Think about it this way: "why waste time doing this when there are other better more important things to do?"

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin has 5 children(Piper,Willow,Bristol,Track, and Trig.) Her youngest is Trig who was born on April 18th, 2008. He was born with a well known disease called down syndrome. Down Syndrome is a genetic abnormality that affects a child's intellectual and physical development. Palin says As for people who think a baby like Trig shouldn't even be born, look around. Who is perfect or even normal? This is saying that Palin is accepting her child, even though some of us dont. Palin believes that everyone is unique. She also believes that we shouldnt discriminate against those who arent like us. Another thing is that Palin has to deal with people telling her that she needs to be home helping with her "special needs" child. Some people dont even believe that its her baby! She also has to deal with people snooping around in her buisness(checking hospital records to see if it is her baby.) Its insane!! But Palin is being tough and she is standing her ground. Shes not letting these low-life drama filled people get to her. As long as she knows the real story then she is perfectly okay. Palin is opposed to abortion, which means that she is against it. Palin was asked what she would do if her daughter were raped and became pregnant and she replied saying that she would chose life. Her and her husband both stated that every baby is created for a good purpose. From this we can take that Palin is a strong vice presidential candidate.

Joe Biden

Biden is Obama's running mate who has been through alot. On December 18th 1972 Bidens wife and 3 children were in an automobile accident. They were Christmas shopping in Hockessin, Delaware when their car was hit by a tractor trailer while pulling into an intersection. His wife, Nelia Biden, and 13 month old daughter Amy Biden, were killed in the accident. His sons Beau and Hunter were in critical condition but they both made full recovery. Biden no longer works on December 18th. Its always hard to lose the ones you love. This shows that Biden is strong in overcoming death. He has moved on and remarried. In 1988 Biden was put in the hospital for a life saving surgery to fix a brain aneurysm that had began leaking. There was another operation to repair a second aneurysm in May 1988. The hospitalization and recovery process kept him from his duties in the U.S. Senate for almost seven months. This is displaying that Biden has overome more than just death. He came so close to dying himself.Bidens belief on iraq-war is that he is against it. He is also against LGBT's. Obama is lucky to have such a strong runnung mate by his side.

John Mccain

Mccain has been through alot in his 72 years of life. One of the many hardships in his life happened on October 26, McCain was making his 23rd bombing mission over North Vietnam when his plane was hit by an antiaircraft missile, he ejected breaking both arms and a leg in the process, he landed in a lake near Hanoi and was captured. He spent the next five and a half years as a prisoner of war. Injured and ill, McCain was denied medical assistance until his captors learned that he was an admiral's son, and even then treatment was rudimentary. His father's position also prompted the North Vietnamese to offer him early release in June of 1968. McCain refused, as the U.S. Military Code of Conduct required that prisoners accept release on a first in/first out basis, and there were more than 100 prisoners ahead of him. His refusal resulted in a round of torture that included knocking his teeth out, hanging him by his broken arms, and beating him almost around the clock for a week. This is saying that he is a strong man who is caring, compassionate, and loyal. McCain could have easily taken the early release and skipped the 100s of men waiting to get out. But instead he decided to stay even though he knew he would be tortured even more. McCain has said that he believes that an embryo should be given human rights. This is saying that he is pro-life which also means he is against abortion. John Mccain may be older than Obama but it doesnt mean he isnt as good.

Barack Obama

Barack Obama has been through many hardships in his life so far but that doesnt stop him from living a great life. Obamas parents were separated and then divorced by the time he was 4 years old. His parents also are both deceased. His mother died of cancer in 1995 and his father died in a automobile accident in 1982. This is showing that even though Obama lost 2 very important people in his life he has learnt to be strong and he has learnt to live a great life without them. Obamas stand on immigration is this: He does not believe that 12 million illegal immigrants can be deported He said "It's not going to happen. We're not going to go round them up ... We should give them a pathway to citizenship." This is saying that Obama believes we should accept the illegal immigrants like we accept each other. Here is a quote from Obama: There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America; there's the United States of America . This says that we all live in the same America and some of us need to stop being racist against others because we have just as much of a right to be here as they do. Obama also says he will retreat from Iraq no matter what the situation on the ground is, and no matter what advice he receives from military commanders. This is saying that Obama is anti war. Obama has been through alot in his short lifetime. He is a great presidential candidate and so is John Mccain.

Republican Party Collage

Republican Party Collage

Republican Collage Reflection

My collage reflects issues in the election that McCain supports and opposes. It shows how he is for gender and age instead of race. It also shows how he keeps saying change and we just have to listen to him and hope he isnt lying. It also shows how McCain doesnt want to hire 100,000 new teachers. The republican party promises us change but will we ever get it??

Democratic Party Collage

Democratic Party Collage

Democratic Collage Reflection

This collage on the democratic party shows how they propose change. It also shows how they believe that we wont get change from McCain and that we should vote for them. This reveals how Obama is all for race unlike McCain who is all for gender and age. It lso shows how he supports border security and other things. From this collage we can get that the democratic party is almost the exact opposite of the republican party.

Reflection on Political Cartoons

From the first political cartoon i wrote about to the last one i wrote about i believe i have improved. The first cartoon I wrote about i had a lot of mess ups in my writing. I didnt really know how to write a topic sentence and an ending sentence that go together. But by the last one i was writing good. The political cartoons we have done have helped a lot on understanding politics and understanding how to interpret things.

Political cartoon #1

Political cartoon #1

Political Cartooon #1

The republican party is being looked down upon and questioned by the democratic party. There are 2 people in this cartoon. One of them is putting up signs on their old shack that say McCain '08. This is exposing that they are wondering about him because he may be lying but they are also supporting him no matter how many houses he owns. Because that's not what really matters. The other person in this cartoon is sitting in a rocking chair and saying "If McCain is such a regular man of the people then how come hes got all them houses and we ain't got but two?" This is saying that if McCain claims to be regular like the rest of us then how come he has a lot more than we do. From this cartoon we can get that no matter who you are, where you live, or how rich or poor you are your opinion counts just as much as the next persons. Wee can also take that it doesn't matter how much money each candidate has. What really matters in the end is what they believe in and what you believe in.

Political cartoon #2

Political cartoon #2

Political Cartoon #2

The media is saying that you have to be male to run for president or even help run for president. In this cartoon there is a picture of Obama and under his picture it says "Transformative, Historic chance to bring to Washington." This is saying that since Obama is male he can run the country better than Palin could if she had to step in for McCain. The other part of this cartoonhas Palin's picture except someone drew a mustache on her. Under her picture it says "Transformative, Historic choice to bring change to Washington." This is saying that the media believes that to be president you have to be male. From this cartoon we can take that the media is being very sexist twards Palin. We can also take that it doesnt matter what gender you are dont let it stop you from winning the race.

Political cartoon #3

Political cartoon #3

The presidential candidates are lying to americans just to get the vote. The first thing seen in this cartoon is McCain in a cane that is holding a block that says lies on it. McCain is sayong "this one is to somewhere." This is stating that McCain/Palin are telling so many lies to americans that they dont know where they go anymore. The next thing seen is Obama in the corner saying "quite an infrastructure investment." This is showing that Obama doesnt think lies are a good investment. From this cartoon you ca take that the candidates have told alot of lies and that it isnt safe to believe them.

Political Cartoon #4

Political Cartoon #4

Political Cartoon #4

Th people of America are showing their rights but are also facing challenges. The first thing seen in this cartoon is a man standing in front of his house holding a flag and saying "im not evacuating im planting this flag in the ground to symbolize my Texas Independence and self reliance." This is saying that he can be independent and he doesnt need anyone to tell him what to do. The next thing seen in this cartoon is the same man with a sign saying "HELP! NEED RESCUE!"This is exposing that Americans need guidance and that we should listen to presidential help. From this cartoon we can get that America needs guidance and that we cant always be independent.

Political Cartoon #5

Political Cartoon #5

Political Cartoon #5

The truth is being covered up by so many ls that it never gets the chance to come out. The first thing seen in this cartoon is a man lying in the middle of the road. The shirt he is wearing says the truth on it. This is showing that he represents the truth in the presidential race. The next thing seen is the dialogue bubble over his head that says "I never had a chance McCains bus hit me from the right and Obamas hit me from the left."This is exposing that the presidential candidates are telling a lot of lies and they are trying to keep them coverd. Also, this shows that the truth could never make its way to the voters because everytime it gets close to coming out its pushed back down. In conclusion to this cartoon the candidates are going to end up getting caught in their own lies when the truth does come out.

Political Cartoon #6

Political Cartoon #6

Political Cartoon #6

The candidates are trying to sabatage each other. The first thing seen in this cartoon is a flower with Obamas face on it. This is shwing how Obama is pretty and how he is perefct just like a flower. The next thing seen in this cartoon is an elephant carrying slime and manure. This is showing how the republicans are trying to kill the flower. Or poison it. From this cartoon we can get that the candidates are trying to hurt one anothers chance at winning the campaign.
